Early life. Born in 1866, Jensen was the son of a knife grinder in the town of Raadvad, just to the north of Copenhagen. Jensen began his training in goldsmithing at the age of 14 in Copenhagen. His apprenticeship with the firm Guldsmed Andersen, ended in 1884, and this freed Georg to follow his artistic interests.

The number of this design is 196. The piece is executed between 1916-1919. The centerpiece is 21.5 cm high and has a diameter of 25.3 cm. It weighs 1121 grams.

A painter and designer of furniture and textiles, Johan Rohde (1856-1935) was as important as Jensen himself in developing the firm's unique style. Rohde first collaborated with Georg Jensen in 1906 when he asked Jensen to make a silver service to his design specifications.
